BB2C Parent Perspective: Melinda Crone

How do the experiences BB2C provides really impact our students and what do their parents think about it? Let's start with the story of Hannah Crone. Hannah experienced difficulty in deciding where she wanted to job shadow during her senior year. The BB2C Coordinator sat down with Hannah to discuss her interests. She knew she wanted to explore business somehow, but after the meeting there was still no clear direction.

The coordinator then arranged an appointment with Pamela Lankford, Epicenter Director, to help Hannah gain a clearer perspective. As director, Pamela runs our Youth and Entrepreneurial Development Center. At the Epicenter, students interact with businesses who are incubating and growing. Pamela also works with many other businesses in the community. Pamela decided it could be beneficial for Hannah to shadow one of our mentors for a marketing job shadow placement. Hannah shadowed with Jennifer Greene, Director of Marketing and Member Services, at Washington Electric Cooperative, Inc. During her placement, Hannah was able to sit in on a board meeting and learn about the marketing Jennifer does. Her expereinces had a definite impact on her career decision.

Melinda Crone, Hannah's mom,  had this to say, "Building Bridges did exactly as the name implies for Hannah.  It helped connect advice from educators and parents with real experiences in the work force.  They worked with her to help her find her strengths and interests.  This helped her to decide on a major in Business Administration.  After declaring her major, she could then apply for more specific scholarships and was fortunately chosen as the recipient of the J. William Morris Scholarship."

When last spoken with, Hannah had decided to minor in marketing as well. Stay tuned to learn more about Hannah's experiences and how BB2C provided her with more real world experience after graduation.
