Making the New Year Bright!

Jared Wittekind, BB2C Makerspace Director

The New Year is the perfect time to develop new skills and the BB2C Makerspace is the perfect place to do it! Members that subscribe for twenty dollars a month can schedule training on any of our Makerspace equipment including our woodshop, tech space, CNC router, laser cutter/engraver, 3D printers, stained glass space and more.

Makerspaces, which are collaborative environments for innovation, are equipped with tools and resources for hands-on creation. They play a pivotal role in skill development across diverse audiences. These community spaces inspire creativity and foster a positive, supportive environment for skill-building.

Makerspaces cultivate critical thinking and problem solving skills for members and visitors alike. By engaging in projects that require planning, iteration, and troubleshooting, individuals develop the ability to analyze problems and implement effective solutions. This process encourages a mindset of experimentation and learning from failure, which is essential to be successful both personally and professionally.

Makerspaces also facilitate the development of technical skills. Whether it's programming, electronics, or woodworking, these spaces provide access to a plethora of tools and technologies. Experience with these resources empowers individuals to gain practical proficiency and enhance their technical know-how and adaptability in a rapidly evolving world.

Collaboration is a key component in Makerspaces. Working on projects alongside peers encourages teamwork, communication, and idea exchange. These interpersonal skills are invaluable in professional settings where collaboration is often crucial for success. A perfect example of this is our Meet-N-Make Fridays from 4-7 p.m. During this time, members can bounce ideas off of each other and our Makerspace staff to share knowledge and know-how.

Memberships also make last-minute gifts! Interested in becoming a member or purchasing a membership? Check out our webpage at makestuff.space or contact us directly at makerspace@bb2careers.org.
