Tori Gaston
STUDENT VOICE
Hello, everyone! My name is Tori Gaston, and I am the EDIFY (Early Development of Informed Foster Youth) Case Manager at KVC West Virginia. My passion for this position stems from my four years of peer and professional tutoring experience at Fairmont State University, where I earned my BA in English and BA in Spanish. Although I had initially planned to use those degrees to go into teaching, I had the wonderful opportunity to explore the social work field right after graduation as a CSED (Children with Serious Emotional Disorders) Wraparound Moderator. In the near future, I hope to earn my MSW! When I am not working, I love going for runs, reading books that have been waiting on my shelves (for months!), and finding new ways to get involved in my community. Recently, I completed my rugby referee licensure and have been volunteer coaching with my county's local youth rugby group!

Amanda McFarland
RIPLEY UNION LEWIS HUNTINGTON LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICT
Born and raised in Adams County, Ohio, to a family that would today be considered "impoverished", I learned at an early age the value of hard work, loyalty, honesty, and commitment in creating a successful life. I am the oldest of four children and the only daughter. By the age of five, with enrollment in kindergarten, I quickly developed a love for education. From the moment I became a school-aged student, I knew I wanted to be a teacher, and pursued that goal throughout primary and secondary school. In 1999, I graduated from Shawnee State University with a Bachelor's in Arts/Humanities and teaching certificate. I worked for the next 23 years in the Adams County school district. I taught high school Language Arts at the career and technical center for 11 years which fostered my passion for career and college readiness. I then served as an assistant principal for 2 years and spent 10 years as the principal of Peebles Elementary.
I am the mother of three daughters whose ages are 31, 25, and 16. In 2021, my youngest daughter, my husband and I moved from Adams to Brown County. As a result, I took a job with RULH Local Schools as a middle school principal. At the close of the 2022-23 school year, the RULH BOE dissolved the middle school. As a result, my role within the district for the 2023-24 school year transitioned to Director of Curriculum and Student Services. This is my third year in that position. In the last three years, I have worked diligently to create a more aligned and effective environment for learning in which adults and students feel driven to excel. I feel I have come full circle in my career, reigniting my passion for creating a sense of purpose for myself and others and ensuring that students are provided with a variety of opportunities to build upon their potential and demonstrate readiness for lifelong success.

My passion has always been advocating for those whose voices have been unheard or unrecognized. That commitment also led me to work with Family and Children First in Marietta as a home visitor for the Help Me Grow program, supporting new parents and modeling healthy parenting practices. Later, I continued that mission as an outreach coordinator for Help Me Grow at the Noble County Health Department, working to connect more families to resources and support.
Today, I work with Future Plans and The GRIT Project, where our mission is to end poverty one person at a time. I am deeply committed to making the communities we live in a healthier, more prosperous, and more hopeful place for everyone.
Outside of work, I enjoy going to concerts, nature adventures, exploring thrift shops, and spending time growing my faith.

This led me to my current role as a Regional Program Manager for HealthCorps where we look to provide health education to high school students who are taking their next step in life and venturing out on their own. In October I will complete my first year with HealthCorps and couldn't be more committed to our mission!
