Creating My Own Story

Alexis White, as a 2024 Ohio Ag Net Student FFA reporter at the 96th Ohio FFA State Convention.

By Alexis White, Fort Frye High School Rising Senior

Throughout high school, staying conscientious has always been a top priority for me. This trait has especially been difficult to manage when discussing my career goals. I have bounced around with career interests, but none have seemed to completely resonate with me. Sooner rather than later, I would create a pathway full of my greatest interests.

It wasn’t until I entered the Fort Frye FFA program in my sophomore year of high school that I would further develop my career goals. As I became an active member of the chapter, I was introduced to a wide variety of opportunities. These opportunities have consisted of networking with adults, enhancing my public speaking skills through memorized speeches and developing my interview skills through the Job Interview CDE. These experiences have opened doors to meeting new people, becoming comfortable with the uncomfortable, and discovering my own voice.

Later on in my sophomore year, my agricultural educator, Mrs. Abigale Campbell, forwarded me an email which presented a new opportunity. There was an available position to become a 2024 Ohio Ag Net Student FFA reporter at the 96th Ohio FFA State Convention. Eager to explore career opportunities in the agricultural field, I stepped right up and applied. This experience consisted of photography, videography, B-role, interviews, and audio editing. This opened my eyes to a world of creativity. This year at the 97th Ohio FFA State Convention, I served my role as a student FFA reporter as a returning “veteran”.

After I expressed interest in Agricultural Communications, I shared my story with BB2C. Soon enough, an opportunity presented itself at the WMOA radio station. Open to learning, I applied for the internship. I have been working at the radio station through a paid internship since February of 2025. My duties include conducting over-the-phone interviews, making cuts, creating stories, and later airing the stories. I even assist with running baseball games back at the studio from the control board.

One of my proudest accomplishments is the story that I created from my interview with Don Jones (listen below). This interview was special because Don Jones is our former state representative, representing the 95th District. Jones was appointed by the Trump Administration to serve as the new State Executive Director for the USDA Farm Service Agency in Ohio. I created this story to recognize Mr. Jones on both a national and local level.

I am looking forward to beginning my senior year at Fort Frye. Following my career interests, I hope to double major in Agricultural Communications and Agribusiness and Applied Economics at the Ohio State University. From past experiences, I have developed a fine love for journalism. However, I am always open to learning new information within the majors.
